Jack was honored with a Quilt of Valor on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Barbara also enjoyed the festivities along with a few invited guests.
The ceremony was at the Brindlee Mountain Church of the Nazarene, 370 Belair Dr., Arab, AL.
Lynn Hales, district coordinator for Northeast Alabama for Quilts of Valor, nominated Jack for this honor and also made the quilt presentation. Her husband, J P Hales, a retired U.S. Army Colonel, read a summary of Jack’s military career.
"The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor."
The quilts are red, white and blue, each with a different pattern. The back of each quilt includes a small panel where the quilter has left a note thanking the veteran for his service.
Many Vietnam veterans were not thanked upon their arrival home. Some quilt presentations mark the first time that's happened.
