Long Branch Opry - Balsam Range

The opening act was the local Arab High School FFA Quartet and String Band, which we really enjoyed. Several members are also in Freshwater Creek who appeared last month.

Next up was Tennessee Valley Express, a Huntsville, AL bluegrass, gospel, country and even sometimes classic rock band. The members are: Chris Hill (guitar/vocals), Trey Patterson (mandolin/vocals), Evan Scott (guitar/vocals), Jeremy Crosslin (banjo), and Billy Craig (upright bass).
Tennessee Valley Express.
Every member had the chance to display their many talents and their vocals were excellent. After a little sound trouble at the start the next two sets were great.

The main act was Balsam Range and they were exceptional! They are a hard core bluegrass band from Western North Carolina. Members are: Buddy Melton (fiddle/upright bass/vocals), Darren Nicholson (mandolin/vocals), Marc Pruett (banjo), Caleb Smith (guitar/vocals), and Tim Surrett (bass/resonator guitar/vocals).

This is the way they were dressed and they sounded just as good as they look. They are one of the best bluegrass groups we have ever heard. Every member is excellent and together they are a tight group. It's tough to single out any one member, but Marc Pruett on the banjo is one of the best; fast and innovative. They all seem to really have a good time and expressed interest in returning in the fall; we sure hope so!

We estimated the turnout to be about 200, far short of previous shows. No one had an explanation and we hope it won't dampen future attendance. It was another great evening for those of us who came.
